ati mobility radeon 9600

ATI Mobility Radeon 9600

I have a ATI Radeon 9600 installed on my laptop which is running the 32bit version of Vista the problem im getting though is when the drivers are installed and running vista is verrrryyyy SLOW (even if i disable all servies)!!! i will click something and it takes about a minute before it takes effect, but if i disable the video card or install the standard SVGA drivers everything runs just fine, but of course i get no 'special effects' i've tried installing the drivers from ATI, didn't work orig. Vista drivers didn't work, anybody ran into this before?? what can i do?? i've been looking on the internet for days and havent found anything. Laptop is a 3.2 GHz P4 w/ HT, 1.5 GB of RAM, 100 GB HDD, should run Vista somewhat....

One other problem U might be having if you have 2 Slots for your RAM and not using identical RAM Cards ? I have the same radeon 9600 mine works well with Beta -- TM

i have one expandable, 512 MB is built in and i added 1GB on. how would that affect it though?? how much VRAM does your card have?? what drivers are you using and are you using a 32bit system or a 64bit system??

I have two Kingston HyperFX 512 DDR PC3200 in slots 2 and 3. Should i move one to slot 1? I havent had any issues in XP with this configuration so i didnt think it would be a problem in Vista.

Well, i finally got it to work. NOTE: the proceeding is all done in safe mode. I Unistalled all ATI drivers, even writing down the files that were in the system32 folder and system32/drivers folder and deleting those too (the come back any way but still.) I then went to my xp drive and copied some ati drivers from there. I started with the oldest driver first which was 5-10. I used the single installes were the driver install and control panel install are seprate. i then used the installer in the driver only install and restarted Vista into normal state. When it finished loading it was working ^^. It detected that the Raedon 9600 Series was my display adapter and brougth my rating up to 2 (still cant use aero theme though T_T, im still working on that one.) I hope this helps any who read it!

I downloaded and installed the Vista drivers from ATI but i have this error in the Hardware properties for this device. I did a search on microsoft and ati's site about this error code but nothing came up. Any ideas? I have the 32 bit Vista install and used the 32 bit drivers from ATI.

There are big driver problems with ATI cards. And the vista VGA driver is very bad and does not support higher resolutions.
